This program, based in Cardiff and London, is offered in cooperation with Study Abroad Swansea, which provides housing and additional academic support while students are in Wales.
The first two weeks of the program take place at the Arcadia London Center and consist of four hours of instruction per day divided between two core modules, WELI PSUK 340 Devolution in the UK - A Disunited Kingdom? and WELI PSUK 342 Postwar British Politics Each course continues in a weekly online format after students begin their placements, and students also must attend biweekly seminars while in Wales. Each of the core modules carries four semester hours of credit.
Upon arrival in Wales and after a brief orientation, students will be paired up with a Member of the Welsh Assembly and are required to write a political dissertation to be presented at the end of the semester. The placement experience is worth three credits, a 5,000-word academic project under the direction of an academic supervisor awards two credits, and an assessed blog awards one credit, for a total of six credits. Placements comprise four to five days per week for twelve weeks, and are unpaid.
